After an all too short stay in Hiroshima we set off this morning for Kyoto with stops along the way. Our first stop was the Hiroshima Peace Park which stands at the epicentre of the blast. Here we learned about the reality of the A bomb which dropped on the 6th August 1945 at 8:15. It's hard to imagine how awful it must have been and certainly visiting the museum was a very harrowing, emotional experience. After the museum we walked through the park, which is now a beautiful area.

The memorial to those who lost their lives with the eternal flame beyond the arch and the only remaining building after the blast.

After lunch we visited the Okayama Korakuen Garden which is classed as one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. Construction of the gardens was begun in 1687 and it was completed in 1700.

There were great celebrations at the park to mark the 12th anniversary of the joining of 12 local districts. The Japanese are big into cartoon characters and these represent the districts.
