Day 2 - Tokyo Calling

We've arrived after a long but comfortable flight. Drinks were served first and then dinner and wine soon afterwards followed by ice cream.  Both of us slept fairly well but were more than happy to be served breakfast and then land.

Coming in to land

As we'd expected everything at the airport was very well organised and ran with military precision. We were soon through immigration/bag collecting/customs and were met by Derek our Scottish tour guide. He seems very nice and we were soon on our way to the hotel, which is huge. There are lots of different restaurants and I think tomorrow we are going to try the restaurant with a view on the 44th floor. Fingers crossed it's a clear day and also that we get it in. Apparently it is very popular and space is limited.

After an hour to ourselves we met up with our tour guide who took us on an area orientation walk. Everywhere is very clean and quiet, totally different to other Asian countries we've visited. It's really odd walking down the streets and seeing displays of plastic food in the windows of restaurants. There is a lack of English around and most restaurants don't have English menus. Choosing from a picture menu or 'plastic food' doesn't really help because you still haven't a clue what it is. We were very tempted by a couple of Italian restaurants but felt that was cheating and instead chose a Japanese fish restaurant and had deep fried tuna and cod, which was very scrummy. I think we'll be ready to be more adventurous tomorrow.

Us dressing up - when in Japan be a Japanese. There are the usual fluffy robes but these were neatly folded up in a drawer.

Night night all.
